Awards Lucile Cornetet Awards for Professional Development Individual Awards Professional development may be defined as a growth-promoting, learning process that empowers employed educators, early-career educators, and second-educational-career educators to further excellence in education. Do you need money to help you pay for the workshops, courses or seminars that you wish to take? These awards are available to all educators who meet the stated criteria. The application process is competitive. Awards (money) given to individual educators assists their participation in professional development opportunities through approved professional development providers such as colleges, universities, and professional organizations other than The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. The most recent awards, given in September 2009, went to 21 educators who were awarded Cornetet Individual Awards totaling approximately $19,999.00. The recipients of these most recent Individual Awards are from the following locations: Arkansas, 1; Arizona, 2; Conneticut, 1; Florida, 1; Georgia, 1; Hawaii, 1; Illinois, 1; Kansas, 1; Manitoba, 1; Michigan, 1; Mississippi, 2; Ohio, 1; Pennsylvania, 1; Tennessee, 2; Texas, 1; Virginia, 3. As of September 2009, two hundred fifty-six (256) educators have received Cornetet Individual Awards totaling $268,052.82 for professional development activities. Awards may fund travel, lodging, meals, pay for substitutes, registration fees, etc. Awards may not be used to reimburse for activities already completed, to pursue a degree program, or to fund an educational project. Complete information concerning the specifics of the Individual Awards and the current application form are available by mail from The Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation and on the Documents page. Deadlines for Individual Awards applications are February 1, May 1, and September 1 of each year. Seminar Awards In November 2008, five Seminar Awards were granted totaling $9,905. They were awarded to the state organizations of California, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Previously, Seminar Awards have been given to Sweden, Wyoming, Alabama, Finland, Pennsylvania, the Southeast State Presidents, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Jalisco, Mexico. The Seminar Award information and current application form are available by mail from The Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation and on the Documents page. Application deadline for this award is November 1 of each year.
